Press Releases for the September 17 Event to honor the “Eastern Madame Curie'', Madame Chien-Shiung Wu (吳健雄).  The event is sponsored by OCPA and APS, organized by the 20,000 members who live in the United States, the Nanjing University Alumni Association United States (NUAAUS).

Besides her experimental verification of the Tsung-Dao Lee and Chen-Ning Yang theoretical proposal of the non-conservation of parity in weak interactions, she also played a (less well known) pivotal role during WWII at the Manhattan Project.  In the website, it states that

During the Manhattan Project, she worked at Columbia University, helping develop the process for separating uranium metal into U-235 and U-238 isotopes by gaseous diffusion. This process was replicated at a grand scale at the K-25 Plant in Oak Ridge. She also developed improved Geiger counters for measuring nuclear radiation levels. She is believed to have been the only Chinese person to have worked on the Manhattan Project.

There have been three releases so far.

The first is an upgrade of the first press release of the event. In its original form, we listed the members of the organizing committee of the event.  The upgraded version is to announce our great pleasure and honor of adding two world-class female scientists:  Professor Nieng Yan (颜宁) of Princeton University and Professor Young-Kee Kim (김영기) of the University of Chicago. Both Professors Yan and Kim will speak at the event.

The second is the press release to announce that Professor Zhenan Bao (鲍哲南) of Stanford University will speak at the event. 

The third is the press release to announce Professor Gao Haiyan (高海燕) of Brookhaven National Laboratory / Duke University will speak at the event.

Madame C. S. Wu completed her undergraduate studies from the National Central University in 1934. In 1949, the name of this university was morphed into Nanjing University.
